There
are many things to consider when purchasing any of these
machines. And, there seems to be no easily definable standard
because disabled people all seem to have a need which
might be unique for them. This booklet is to offer many
general suggestions if you need to choose between buying
a scooter or power chair. You may have abilities today
which may weaken over the next few years. It is difficult
to try and plan for but if you can it may save you money
in the long term.
There
are so many different configurations available for scooter/power
chair users, only you, your occupational therapist and
the medical supply store people can make the final decision
about which machine is right for you. Before you buy,
make sure that you use the machine for a day or two. Take
it everywhere you plan to go after you buy it. Does it
feel comfortable after a few hours of continuous use?
Does it do everything you want it to? Check with other
users to find out if they are satisfied with their machines.
The machine will be used for years so take your time making
a decision about which style, brand and dealer to buy
from.
